How credits actually work on Roma AI

September 24, 20265 min read

Every generation on Roma costs credits — that part's obvious the first time you open the composer and see a price before you generate. What's less obvious, until you run into it, is that there isn't one credit balance. There are two, they don't mix, and they expire on different schedules depending on how you got them. Here's what that actually means for how you use them.

Two balances, not one

Video credits pay for video generation. Image credits pay for image generation, audio and 3D. The two never borrow from each other — running out of image credits doesn't stop you from finishing a video project, and running out of video credits doesn't touch your ability to generate images, audio or 3D.

If you're the kind of user who does a lot of one and very little of the other, it's worth checking both balances before you assume you're out — you might have plenty left on the side you actually need. Your Credits page, Dashboard and Settings → Billing & Credits all show both.

Not all credits expire the same way

How you got credits determines how long they last. Credits from a plan (Creator, Pro or Studio) last 30 days from purchase, or 365 for the annual versions. A Custom Package lasts 30 days too. Add-on credit packs never expire, and anything the Roma team grants you directly, or refunds back to you, never expires either.

When you generate, Roma spends from whichever batch expires soonest first, and the Credits page warns you when a batch is within 3 days of running out — so it's worth checking there before a plan cycle rolls over if you want to be sure nothing goes unused.

What happens when something goes wrong

If a provider rejects a request outright or errors out, your credits are refunded automatically — no action needed from you.

Video is the case worth understanding in more depth, because it's asynchronous — your job is submitted and rendered in the background, and Roma polls for a result. If a job never reports back within 30 minutes, Roma marks it failed on its side, but doesn't auto-refund it, since the provider may have finished rendering and billed Roma for it anyway even though the result never made it back to you. If you were charged and see no result, email romaaieditor@gmail.com and the team will review it.

A generation that completes successfully isn't refunded, even if the result isn't what you imagined.

The short version

  • Video and image credits are separate pools that never borrow from each other.
  • How you got credits determines how long they last — plans and Custom Packages last 30 (or 365) days, add-ons and grants/refunds don't expire.
  • Roma always spends the soonest-expiring batch first.
  • A failed or rejected generation is refunded automatically; a completed one isn't; a stalled video job with no result is reviewed by the team if you email in.
